DISC 01: BORDERLINE: Pete Ritchie (Raymond Burr) runs a narcotics smuggling operation to the USA from Mexico, which the Los Angeles Police Department and the US federal government have unsuccessfully tried to stop. Because of Ritchie's careful operating procedures, US authorities haven't even been able to find out the identities of his sources or customers and are desperate for a breakthrough. As a last resort, Madeleine Haley (Claire Trevor), an LAPD officer and former OSS operative, is sent undercover to Mexico to charm her way into Ritchie's confidence. Once there, Haley manages to establish contact with Ritchie's gang, but is kidnaped by Johnny Macklin (Fred MacMurray), a federal agent posing as a hoodlum working for a rival of Ritchie's and who also steals a load of Ritchie's narcotics. Haley plays along and joins Macklin on a smuggling trip for the stolen narcotics, with Ritchie in hot pursuit. DISC 02: IMPACT In San Francisco, the successful self-made businessman Walter Williams has just bought three factories in Denver with the approval of the board of directors. His beloved wife Irene tells him that she is not feeling well enough to travel with him, and asks Walter to give a lift to her

On the highway, Jim who is actually Irene's lover, tries to kill Walter hitting his head and throwing him off a cliff, and has a fatal fiery accident while escaping driving Walter's car. Walter is believed to be the driver and later his wife is sent to jail accused of plotting his murder. Meanwhile, the wounded Walter falls asleep in a moving van and eventually winds up in Larkspur, a small town in Idaho. He is hired as a mechanic in a gas station by the owner. Marsha Peters. For three months, Walter reads the news, expecting revenge with Irene sentenced to death, and he and Marsha fall in love with each other. When Walter discloses the truth to Marsha, she convinces him to return to San Francisco and save his unfaithful wife. The situation changes when Irene accuses him of plotting to kill her lover Jim, and Walter has to prove his innocence. DISC 03: JIGSAW The title refers to a jigsaw puzzle and the story begins with the murder of a print shop owner that is quickly labeled a suicide. But newspaper columnist Charlie Riggs is con- vinced that it was a murder related to

white neo-fascist organization called the Crusaders and imparts this suspicion to Assistant District Attorney Howard Malloy. He also publishes this opinion of his column. Then Riggs himself is murdered, including Malloy to launch an investigation into the Crusaders. Because the group appears to be getting backing from organized crime, Malloy looks there, soon receiving unsolicited help from a crime boss called Angel, who recommends him for the position of special prosecutor. Later, with further help from the prominent judge's widow, Malloy is appointed. This is supposed to put him in the pocket of those behind the murders. But Malloy proceeds to investigate the artist who created the Crusaders recruiting poster. Seeing in the artist's studio a painting of an attractive night club singer, Malloy then proceeds to investigate her. This leads to a series of revelations regarding all of these characters and ends with more people dead and wounded in a fiery exchange at the end. DISC 04: THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS In 1928, in Iverstown, heiress Martha Smith is caught by the police for the fourth time trying to runaway from home with her friend Sam Masterson. She hates her aunt Mrs. Ivers. While in her room with her tutor's son Walter O'Neil, Sam shows up. A heavy storm causes the power to turn off. Martha asks Sam to bring her cat back to the room. When Sam is trying to catch the cat in the dark, her aunt comes to the staircase and Sam hides himself. Mrs Ivers hits the cat with her cane. Martha takes the cane to stop her aunt and strikes her, causing Mrs Ivers to tumble down the stairs to her death. Martha lies to Mr. O'Neil and blames an intruder for killing her aunt and Walter confirms the lie. Eighteen years later, Sam is dying outside Iverstown, he does not pay attention in a curve and hits a car into a post. He brings his car to a body shop in the industrial town, and while waiting for the repair, he meets the gorgeous Toni Marachek. The next morning, Toni is arrested for violation of probation, so Sam decides to go to Walter O'Neil, now the district attorney and married to the wealthy Martha Ivers, to ask him to release Toni. When Walter sees Sam, he believes Sam wants to blackmail Martha and him, and his misunderstanding lead the former friends to tragic revelations about the fatal night and discloses dirty secrets about the couple, Martha and Walter. DISC 05: THE STRANGER War crimes commissioner Wilson (Edward G. Robinson) has a mission to track down the errant Nazi war criminals and bring them to justice.
