A slotted basin waste has slots which allow any overflowing water to run into the main waste. If your basin doesn't have an overflow, or has an overflow hole which requires a separate connection, you would need to use an un-slotted basin waste. It is essential that you choose the correct waste for your basin otherwise the waste will not work correctly which could lead to damage to your new basin.
